Headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, we also operate offices/warehouses in Des Moines, Iowa, Fargo, North Dakota and Sioux Falls and Rapid City, South Dakota.
We are experiencing significant growth across the company and would welcome adding a leader of finance and accounting to our team. The Controller provides primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing, executing and controlling financial activities of the organization. In addition, this role will shape and develop the overall accounting and financial functionality of the company. This position reports to the company’s Chief Financial Officer and has 2 direct reports.
Salary and total compensation for this opportunity are commensurate with experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Management and Leadership
- Hire, train, mentor and manage the performance of accounting staff
Accounting
- Manage the organization’s full-cycle accounting functions
- Responsible for AR collections
Banking and Cash Flow
- Produce daily cash flow information – cash balances and uncleared check balances
- Facilitate intercompany transfers, bank loans and other sensitive financial information
- Enter sensitive financial information in Sage 100
- Daily audit of Positive Pay/ACH Exceptions
- Prepare/submit monthly Bank Borrow Base and quarterly Compliance Certificates
Payroll
- Prepare and submit semi-monthly payroll in Payentry/NextGen
- Enter payroll information in Sage 100
- Facilitate H.S.A. and 401k contributions
Month End/Year End
- Prepare, submit and enter sales tax payments
- Complete banking and reporting responsibilities including statement reconciliation, auditing balance sheet, posting adjustments, month end close
- Prepare internal financial statements
- Formulate budgets
- Reconcile credit card statements for Executive Team
- Compile and distribute Sales and Commission Reports
- Audit internal financial statements
- Assures all required tax and information returns are prepared in compliance with all laws and regulations
Inventory
- Coordinate bi-annual physical inventory count and provide oversite for all companies
Manage Strategic Projects
- Create and implement company policy
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive performance and efficiency
- Participate with other members of management in planning and controlling company financial operations
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s Degree in business, accounting or finance
- Minimum 5 years accounting experience, preferably in a distribution environment
- Minimum 2 years of leadership experience in a financial role such as Controller or Accounting Manager
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and theory including audit practices and division of duties.
- Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections
- Excellent analytical, communication and problem-solving skills
- Person of integrity with a stellar record of maintaining confidentiality
- Self-directed with collaborative leadership skills, initiative and flexibility
- Excellent organization and time management skills, and attention to details
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to create and manage complex Excel spreadsheets
